CAT 2012: Aspirant’s Only Goal

Mythological stories tell us that with complete focus on aiming at eye of fish Arjuna shot arrow with perfection. Ekalavya learnt archery with great focus of listening and observation only.  Lesson from stories is that with single minded focus, impossible can be achieved.

In daily life we observe that people without vision are fast learner than others who are with vision because of the sheer fact that they focus on listening and touch & feel a lot.

CAT 2012 can be competed and cracked with single aim to be winner provided honest preparatory actions are being taken based on repeated SWOT for each section of exam i.e. VA, LR, DI and QA.

Impeccable planning and methodical execution will lead to achieve Goal CAT 2012.

VA Preparation for CAT 2012

Reading habit leads you to thinking and analyze.  Browsing through a news paper is not enough, reading editorials will lead to different perspective.

Verbal Ability is a test for comprehension of understanding for whatever being read.  RC, Para Jumbles, Para Completion and sentence completion are basics of VA section in CAT.

Grammar has to be reworked. More than meaning of words usage in sentence is more important. Writing paragraphs on variety of topics will help to build tempo and conversation among groups will help to build vocabulary.

Assuming and presuming on a particular premise mentioned in stanza might lead you to right inference.

Reading with critical thinking and reasoning can be the best approach to score high in VA section of CAT 2012.

Diversification learning will help CAT 2012 preparation

To neutralize monotonous repetition of practice sessions for all four sections, it will be worthwhile to think beyond text books.  

Why Petrol pricing can’t be lowered?  Whether GDP can be alone economic parameter to quantify growth?  Negligible agricultural growth will lead us to PL 480 era? Coalition Political imbroglio can lead us to Presidential form of government?   Are we so habitual and tolerant of corruption? When we will give patents to world?  Our higher education will not produce researchers? We will continue to go to Olympics for participation and not for aiming medals?  These are few among many topics which can be thought over and analyzed. It gives ecstasy and sense of achievement which will prove to be synergistic for CAT 2012 preparation.

Of course there won’t be questions on general awareness but after having received valid scores other tests like Extempore, WAT, GD & PI will be testing your skills on over all inherent quality of becoming professional.

Besides routine habit of reading news papers, magazines, watching and listening news features on TV and radio, it is thinking power beyond run of mill ideas and venturing to out of box solutions will diversify reasoning to help think beyond dead wall. Synergy of creative ideas with core study will help in CAT 2012 preparation.

Extempore speech tests your confidence

My parents were worried on my stammering but doctors advised that it is just a habit and would be cured with passage of time. But during schooling I started to hide my unsocial habit. The more I was hiding, it was getting more obvious. Today being adult it is a sort of fear psychosis in my mind that I won’t be able to speak well.

I felt happy and encouraged that I got a call from one of new IIMs but I was very much worried to face extempore speech test. I might not speak well and I may be rejected because of shear fact that a manger must be very good in communication. Those were my repeated sentences which I was murmuring within me.

To my pleasant surprise when selection penal told me that you are through and are eligible for PI, I was thrilled. 

Later I realized that my habit was getting worsened with psychology of perceiving unnecessary fear. I was told that in Extempore Speech they judge your confidence and in spite of shortcomings I was able to touch the heart of my audience with logical presentation.  I spoke from my heart with one single focus to enthrall my audience with a take away as message on Inefficiency. 

Over a period of time now I am almost perfect in communication. Thanks to my regained communication power which I reinvented during my stay at IIM.

 

It would be worthwhile to know that few big personalities also overcame this problem like: Winston Churchill, Newton, Aristotle and present day famous Jack Welsh, Tiger Woods and Hrithik Roshan.

Lesson of my story is that we must not be afraid of any physical shortcomings as MBA education leads you to overcome any hurdle and you become professional. 

Extempore speech is test to judge confidence level, mental agility and overall vision.

I can’t compete CAT

Both Superiority and Inferiority complexes are bad. Having Complexes indirectly reflects attitudinal problems.  Nothing is so big that can’t be achieved and nothing is so small which can be left.

Difference between successful and unsuccessful is that successful people worked on their failures whereas others have left attempts.  Having perseverance is another big quality of successful people.

CAT looks very tough because of fierce competition for lesser seats at IIMs. Accuracy, Time & speed are the base to remove fear psychosis for attempting CAT.

Aerodynamically honey bee can’t fly but due to repeated attempts again and again she flies. 

Practice and practice is the only panacea to crack CAT. If preparation is being done with focused aim then achieving mission may not be difficult.

Doing SWOT for each hurdle changes attitude and failures can be managed and converted to successes. 

Positive approach with obsession of achieving goal to succeed in CAT must change the inner belief that I can compete for CAT.
