Why WAT after CAT ?

Till a year before CAT aspirants were subjected to Group discussion to understand their soft skills on communication, body language, and over all personality. But over a period of time test prep institutes have conditioned most aspirants with their training in such a way that most of aspirants look alike and it became  difficult for selection panel to judge candidates and on the other hand GD was getting subjective for judgment. 

New IIMs also thought of giving opportunity to candidates who are coming from smaller towns to excel as sometimes they may not have that confidence in speaking because of less exposure as compared to candidates hailing from metros.

From last year IIMs thought of taking only WAT to judge actual communication power. 

Those who will get shortlisted after CAT 2012 will have to go for Written Ability Test.

Nature of CAT

CAT aspirants must have adapted for exam by now. Those who are undergoing exam are realizing that whether to choose exam date early or late in given date window doesn’t matter much and even trends of exam also doesn’t help much. 

Having understood nature of exam it is a realization that CAT will remain tough and will keep on surprising you because CAT is not testing your only knowledge but is testing your attitude of doing best with accuracy within stipulated time. 

Let the result be out and you will have to be ready for WAT and PI. Time is ripe to focus on these areas now including personality development and grooming yourself with fresh ideas to achieve mission admission IIM.

QA continues to be tough in CAT 2012

Most of CAT aspirants are finding QA difficult this year also which is not surprising as in yester years too QA continued to be tougher.

There is no any fix syllabus for this section but with the expert analysis of previous CAT papers, questions are based on  Number System, Algebra, Time, Speed and Distance,   Work and Time, Profit and Loss,  Installment Payment, Clock, Mensuration, Allegation and Mixture, Work, Pipes and Cisterns, Geometry, Set Theory etc.

If you are clear in the fundamentals of the above you are bound to succeed in QA section of CAT. Primarily NCERT books of 10^th Standard will clear you on the above.

But problems might accrue to those who are not clear on basics of arithmetic and even one month preparation might not be useful.

CAT will remain most premium MBA entrance test

Primarily CAT 2012 scores are meant for IIMs but this year also more than 160 B- Schools have also given option to MBA aspirants to accept CAT 2012 scores.

Top B- Schools who are accepting CAT scores might have different selection criteria and which may not match with IIMs.

CAT aspirants should be ready for the second leg of selection procedure and the moment they get short listed by IIMs and other B-Schools, they will be called for PI.

But before PI, Written Ability Test / Essay Writing / Extempore Speech will be happening and over here the competition will be fierce. These sections do have space of subjectivity hence to cover it up academic background of School and College and work experience have been given weightage.

WAT will be crucial after CAT 2012!

CAT aspirants who are undergoing computer based test CAT 2012 should be aware of the fact that WAT (written ability test) will be equally crucial.

WAT will be topic based and in absence of any trend known or syllabus, you are not sure what subject can be given to write in the time limit of 15-20 minutes.

Your previous practice on writing stanzas and writing Essays will lead you to confidence for attempting WAT.

Besides having domain knowledge on variety of subjects, your creative writing, expression of thoughts, grammar and handwriting also will be on anvil.

Since WAT positively has areas of subjectivity you must ensure that there must be a message in concluding para of your written material as this might help you to create base for PI.
