CAT 2012: Strategy for attempting DI section in CAT

Strategy for dealing with DI while attempting CAT should be very straight as well as flexible. Do not start solving any set immediately, but read all the sets first and then make a call on which set is more structured and has lesser variables in terms of conditions that can be put in a structured table or a format easily.

Make a good choice across the sections and, having decided that, give all the time to that set only. There are going to be hurdles but that does not mean you leave the set and move on to another set, as you have already taken a decision and invested a lot of precious time in that set.

Hence you should make a sensible choice in picking up the right set and doing the right thing before investing any time in a particular set or just jumping from one set to another in DI

Moving from set to set will exhaust you and kill your time. But then even if you spend eight minutes in working out the entire set and the set is very clear, you can solve it immediately.

Don’t be in a hurry that every two minutes you have to mark a question. Spend time on selection of the right set. Go for Mock Tests as number of times as you can.

The above should be top of mind while attempting DI section so that you can successfully achieve mission CAT 2012 !

CAT 2012: Points to be remembered for LR

For attempting Logical Reasoning, here are some general test-taking points that should remembered and remain top of mind:
Study the question carefully. A brief explanation of why each choice is correct or incorrect follows each practice question. If you understand this reasoning for the practice items, you will do well on the actual assessment.

NEVER assume or use any information that the question fails to give you.Consider ONLY the information given in each reading passage when choosing among the alternative responses.

Read both the factual passage and the sentence completion instruction carefully. Both must be considered in making your choice.

Be sure to read all the response choices carefully before choosing one.

In questions that ask you to select a valid conclusion, always choose the one conclusion that must definitely follow from the information you are given. In questions that ask you to find the invalid alternative, choose the one conclusion that does not definitely follow from the information.

Pay special attention to words like "all," "some," or "none" when you read the factual information each question gives you. Other qualifying words such as "other than," "only" or "unless" are important, too. These words can play a critical part in precisely specifying the facts to be used in your reasoning.

Candidly for taking on LR best would be to go for Mock Tests and achieve mission CAT 2012

CAT 2012: Vocab Tips - Developing a Winning Memory

We can easily recall things by their associations. When you set your mind to remember any particular word, your conscious effort should not be to vaguely mug it up but to understand it and retain so that it shall be impressed and retained.

The student who will "cram" for CAT 2012 will not be able to makes any permanent addition to his knowledge. As recall without association is very difficult and sometimes confusing and "cramming" allows no time to form associations.

Therefore, if you find a word difficult to remember, do not waste your energy on mugging it up and then on emphasizing it to return. Try to recall some other fact or name associated with it.
If your memory is good in most respects, but poor in a particular line, it is because you do not interest yourself in that line, and therefore have no material for association.

To improve your memory you must increase the number and variety of your mental associations. Many ingenious methods, scientifically correct, have been devised to aid in the remembering of particular facts. These methods are based wholly on the principle that that is most easily recalled which is associated in our minds with the most complex and elaborate groupings of related ideas.
Cramming is almost prohibited to raise vocabulary so go ahead with practice and usage and achieve mission CAT 2012

CAT 2012: Useful Tips Section Wise

To give you a clear idea about the preparation strategy for each section of CAT 2012, here are few tips:

For Quantitative Ability, you need to brush up your basics well and focus on your calculation tricks to reduce solution time, lower the mistakes and emphasize on accuracy. DI involves a lot of calculations and to get things correct in less time, learning the tricks and tips of Vedic Mathematics is the best idea. Analytic skills are tested extensively in DI; therefore the CAT 2012 aspirants need to practice DI questions well.

Logical Reasoning section has neither any written syllabus nor any prescribed formula. You need to think logically in order to find out the solution of the problem stated in this section. You need to organize your thinking ability step by step in order to find out a solution.

Unlike Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability, there is no limit to the possibilities in Logical Reasoning. It is most unlikely that any caselet that you have solved before will ever turn up in CAT. The section has only one thing to learn: approach and that again, could be learned through practice and more practice.
