CAT 2012: Mission Admission MBA

With single focused mind unachievable have been achieved, examples are many but to motivate ourselves let us  name few like  Graham Bell, Wright Brothers, Archimedes, Galileo Galilei  and off late Lance Armstrong and our own Yuvraj Singh.

Ambition to take admission in one of the thirteen IIMs requires heavy dosage of hard work and preparation for CAT 2012 without any exception. 

Few months are left over for CAT 2012 which can be converted to days then hours. Once focus is established, there must not be looking back and arrow must strike at the bull. 

Single window opportunity is annual for CAT so serious aspirants have started repetition of exercises followed by immense practice sessions for LR, QA, DI and VA sections. 

After computer based test of CAT, focused aspirants will turn on to prepare and practice extempore speech, written ability test, essay writing test, GD & PI.

CAT 2012 preparation: CAT, Just 5 months away

It is middle of May 2012 and since CAT 2012 is approaching very fast, it would be worthwhile to note certain dates and mark them on calendar. Notification of CAT 2012 is likely to be published in national dailies in 2nd week of August 2012 with exam window of 25 -28 days starting from 2nd week of October 2012.

Time really fleets so serious CAT aspirants have  already started preparation and many of them are busy in having clarity on fundamentals and few are already on to practice of all sections viz;   VA, DI, LR  & QA.

It is assumed that there will be two lakh & twenty five thousand plus aspirants who are likely to take CAT 2012.  Competition is very tough for the intake of students in 13 IIMs. 

Practice, speed and accuracy are three mantras for cracking CAT 2012 so fasten your seat belts before you hit air pocket.

CAT 2012: Quantitative Ability (QA)

QA or Quantitative Ability is test on number system, algebra, geometry, coordinate geometry,  mensuration, set theory  on probability / permutation - combination and arithmetic questions.

QA section is tricky and lengthy too but if done with speed and accuracy, can yield good score.

You need to master short cut methods to tackle questions in QA. If selection is important then rejection of options is equally important because negative marking can be a big spoiler in QA.

Over the years QA pattern has shifted from pure calculations to logical analytical sums.

Accuracy supplemented with speed is the key area to take on QA but random guess can put you off from competition so avoid speed breakers and accelerate your chances with smartly picking up right options to be successful in Quantitative Ability section of CAT 2012.

CAT 2012: Logical Reasoning (LR)

Logical Reasoning or LR is one of the important sections in CAT and you are tested on your logic of reasoning based on information with pre conditions in paragraphs, charts and pictures etc. Conclusions in LR need to be reasoned from two to three options.

Answers have to be based on the facts and figures mentioned in passage only. You need not assume anything beyond passage questions.

Careful reading and assessing confusing statements is the key to clear LR in coming CAT 2012 so you require plenty of practice sessions.

“If” & “Then” approach is the best to choose the best clue from the hints mentioned in section. 

Hopefully when you will start reasoning to the questions that will support your logic to conclude in LR.

CAT 2012: Data Interpretation

DI or Data Interpretation is the section which is almost common section to  all MBA entrance exams including CAT 2012.  The genesis of this test is that since a Manager has to analyze data in professional life so analytical mind would be suitable and is required hence; Data Interpretation is a section to test you on analyzing data and decision making capability.

Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency are two basic ingredients of DI section in CAT.  In data interpretation you need to analyze data from graphs, charts and tables whereas you need to solve problems from logical puzzles in data sufficiency.

Data Interpretation can’t be learned instantly, it requires immense practice so be ready for practice sessions till you are successful and achieve mission CAT 2012.

CAT 2012: Verbal Ability

Verbal Ability is one of the tests which is likely to be in the second section of CAT 2012.  In this test you get questions from areas of Critical Reasoning, Paragraph Forming (Para Jumbled Questions), Grammar, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension.

Clarity on fundamentals of grammar and enriched vocabulary are key factors to be successful in Verbal Ability section. Reading comprehensively beyond text books, listening good speeches, watching meaningful videos can assist you to gain confidence for VA otherwise this section can be really a hurdle.

Reading and not glancing through News papers is the need of the hour as that will provide you in depth knowledge of the subject.

Verbal Ability section of CAT is in fact tests you for your study of yester years also because to be good in Grammar and usage of good vocabulary can’t be achieved in limited months so persist with study and achieve mission CAT 2012

CAT 2012 Study Material

In all likelihood there will be two sections with stipulated time of 70 minutes each in CAT 2012 to be held in 3^rd week of coming October 2012 with the notification also coming in 2^nd week of August 2012.

Section one will include test on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation. Section two will have verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. There will be total 60 questions.

Time is ripe for clearing fundamentals on subjects. QA & DI require immense practice sessions whereas reading habits beyond text books and recommended guides will be helpful to master VA & LR

Serious aspirants have already started preparation and since the competition is fierce, it is recommended to plan and execute study section wise as this will lead you to a success at CAT 2012
