Do’s and Don’ts at the Group discussion (GD)

Candidate must not look at the GD panelists & continuously keep eye contact with each member of GD batch. 

It is really good if candidate can take the initiative but it is very important to know the subject in depth failing which initiative will be lost like fluid and it will be futile and candidate may not be able to recover

Candidate should not interrupt to other batch members and it at all it is required then permission request should be put in a very humble manner for your putting views and at this time additional information should be added or supplemented

Speak politely and clearly. Use simple and understandable words while speaking. Don’t be too aggressive if you are disagreeing with someone. Express your feelings calmly and politely

  

Be confident. Do not try to dominate anyone. Keep positive body language. Show interest in discussion

Do not shout and speak just to increase your speaking time. Don’t worry even if you speak less. Your thoughts should be sensible and relevant instead of irrelevant speech

Speak less and listen more Pay attention to others. This will make coherent discussion and you will get involved in the group positively. 

Do not take it casually. No fancy and funny dressing. You should be comfortable while speaking in a Group.

Why you have to look confident also?

Agreed that you have confidence but outwardly that is not visible and this counts a lot in both GD & PI. You are expected to be looking confident also because MBA admission selection panel is eager to meet a confident personality and on your first appearance you must look the eligible guy on this parameter. 

Absolutely with nil exception a confident personality is accepted and is liked by all. Admission selection panel is on the look out to find the suitability of the candidate who not only fits in as per admission policy of the Institute but can be transformed to a budding manager.

Worrying alone not be sufficient

It is said that a bit of worry is good to push performance or get success, actually sometimes worry works as catalyst to achievement. But this must be supplemented with efforts.

Agreed that anxiety engulfs during GD & PI but other side is that selection panel is looking in you a confident personality and that is the essence of clearing these tests.  

To overcome fear psychosis, practice and habit of reading beyond text books comes handy besides daily regimen of reading news papers. 

Preparation with winning attitude and adamancy of not getting defeated easily will certainly fade worry.

Why general awareness is crucial to clear GD and PI ?

Often it is said that general awareness is a genre which is by nature huge and open but it is a fact that in most of the competitive exams general awareness is very crucial and GD & PI are also not exception for MBA admissions.

You must counter in GD!

Group discussion or GD is forum wherein you must discuss the topic with pros and cons. Besides your communication, your skill on countering co group member statement and further elaborating is also on anvil. 

With the above skill you will be benefited two folds, one you will be able to listen carefully and forming habit of understanding others second you will be able to focus on topic automatically. 

Countering on some point is not interruption or objection. This is an art which can be developed with practice in small group. After having countered, onus will be on you to simply and forcefully close in with valid logical thinking because on your finishing others might follow the same route and if found they are better than you so you might lose opportunity to be leader in GD.
