GD is crucial and final step for MBA admission

Most of the institutes use Group Discussions as the next step in the selection process after written examination.

That is the reason why Group Discussion has become so very important criteria for selection and rejection of candidates in institutes as well as during campus placements.

GD is basically a methodology used by an institution to gauge whether a candidate has certain personality traits and/or skills that it desires in its students.

Normally, the group of candidates is given a topic or a situation, given a few minutes to think about the same, and then asked to discuss it among themselves for some time.

GD Topics can be from a wide range of issues. It could be a topic on current events, business news, sports or anything very general.

The wider your reading interests, the better prepared you will be to face the group discussion. A Group discussion tests how you function as a part of a team.

Alertness and presence of mind is noticed in GD

In a GD you are required to carefully listen to the other person's thoughts and keep an argument, example or a supportive statement, fact, example ready to participate in the discussion.

This shows how alert you are, how much importance you give to when someone is putting his or her point forward.

This also shows how good listener you are, at time, things turn up to be a mess when you feel that what is being said is not making sense.

Don’t get irritated. Remember that you need to be calm and composed. Many times after a mess happening in a GD, candidates who are calm are selected.

Do’s and Don’ts at the Group discussion (GD)

Candidate must not look at the GD panelists & continuously keep eye contact with each member of GD batch.

It is really good if candidate can take the initiative but it is very important to know the subject in depth failing which initiative will be lost like fluid and it will be futile and candidate may not be able to recover

Candidate should not interrupt to other batch members and it at all it is required then permission request should be put in a very humble manner for your putting views and at this time additional information should be added or supplemented

Speak politely and clearly. Use simple and understandable words while speaking. Don’t be too aggressive if you are disagreeing with someone. Express your feelings calmly and politely

Be confident. Do not try to dominate anyone. Keep positive body language. Show interest in discussion

Do not shout and speak just to increase your speaking time. Don’t worry even if you speak less. Your thoughts should be sensible and relevant instead of irrelevant speech

Speak less and listen more Pay attention to others. This will make coherent discussion and you will get involved in the group positively.

Do not take it casually. No fancy and funny dressing. You should be comfortable while speaking in a Group.

Be objective about failure and find out reasons

It is rightly said that failures create new opportunities. Impossible says I am possible. Likewise many motivational adages can be found but it is certain that those who accepted failures gracefully have come back with new aggression and had been winners.

Reasoning is to find objectivity in failure and faux pas for not accepting it. Who did not fail? Gandhi, Faraday, Archimedes, Edison and off late space projects even.

The more detailed operation of finding reasons of failure is done, that definitely compels one to accept and come up with new dimensions.

Many comeback stories can be read and absorbed but with nil exception to the golden rule that none of the failure lost heart and most of them vowed to do so differently and that lead them become legendary in this competitive world.

Why Essay writing test?

B-Schools believe that the admission process of conducting Group Discussion and then Personal Interview has become so predictable that students mostly come prepared and it becomes difficult for the panel to judge their real ability.

That is why; this new trend of conducting WAT instead of GD will help the admission committee judge a candidate in a better way.

Essay writing is something that you cannot improve overnight. It has to be in your habit. For developing a habit of essay writing, you need to practice it on day to day basis. Writing practice is very important, but to develop a habit of analysis is much more important.

If you really want to reach a position where you can write an essay over any given topic, then you have to develop a habit of analyzing each and every situation as well as topic you come across.
