        The best way to answer the question like “Why should we select you” is - you know you will be asked and the interviewer knows that you have prepared for this answer. Yet you need to be genuine and sound natural.

An innovative way to answer this question is to convert your name into an acronym and use words to describe your quality. For example the acronym for name can be

H - Humble

A - Adjusting

R - Righteous

I - Interesting

T - Team worker

A - All-Rounder

Describe each of the qualities you mention with an example from your life and relate it to management and leadership skills. This can leave a strong impact on the interview panel.

         After you complete the personal interview round take a deep breath and relax. The concerned college(s) release a list of students who qualify after careful assessment of the performance in various rounds. Usually, there are 2 or 3 lists released. In case you do not qualify in the 1st cutoff list, you could very well find a spot in the 2nd or 3rd list as well.

Once your seat is confirmed after your PI Round, you need to move ahead with the various admission formalities.

PI is critical for those who can’t give informative answers

The personal interview is a critical step in MBA admission process and should not be taken lightly. PI is aimed at knowing a candidate more intimately - assessing the clarity of thinking process, future goals and the 'fit'   factor with the B-school.

It provides the admission selection committee of a B school to evaluate your interpersonal and soft skills.

The Personal Interview is an important step in getting an admission into the business school of your choice. Hence, it should not be taken lightly.  

One of the mistakes that many candidates make during a Personal Interview is sharing information that is not relevant to the question. In a Personal Interview, you are tested on your communication skills.

Generally, you should answer a question in four to six lines. Also, do not beat around the bush while answering questions. Give direct answers that are informative.

In crunch situations, one is likely to lose balance of thoughts but wise men advice to be calm and be natural and hold your nerves. 

PI is positively a last opportunity for MBA aspirants hence, either you lose or you gain. 

Given the situation of highly competitive nature of PI, aspirants are likely to be scared with negative thoughts creeping in mind. Well, here is attitudinal skills come handy and you can maneuver yourself to positivity of achieving admission.

MBA aspirant has right to dream for getting admitted in top B school

Dream for best B school that’s your right. But hold and put a question to yourself whether you are ready to meet the challenges which you will put forth during admission process by MBA institutes?

It is perceived that after having scored high percentile in MBA entrance exam, you are bound to be grilled for second round of admission cycle in arias of WAT, Essay, and GD & PI.

You can appear in many exams like CAT, XAT, IIFT, SNAP, NMAT and CMAT. Even scoring high percentile in these exams there is no guarantee that you will be selected.

B schools are of the view that they are looking forward to great quality aspirants who can be converted to a future manager and can meet aspirations of corporate.

Continue to dream high but remain settled with realities that competition is fierce and only those with exceptional qualities will be getting golden chance.

A Personal Interview (PI) is a two-way communication platform

A Personal Interview (PI) is a two-way communication platform. It is like a dialogue where you showcase your skills to the interviewer and the interviewer in turn paints a picture about the business school that you are interviewing for.

So, both the interviewer and the interviewee can seek clarifications from the other party. Candidates should take some time to think about the question before answering. 

In fact, you will not be penalized for taking a minute to formulate your answer before conveying it to the interviewer. If you fail to seek clarification and answer a question wrongly, it shows your arrogance and unwillingness to seek various points of view and opinions. It also shows that you are rigid and believe that only your way of thinking is correct.

Maintain some humility and show respect for the interviewer by seeking clarification on questions that are too difficult to comprehend. 

There is no harm in asking an interviewer to explain a question, if it is too complicated or vague. In fact, seeking a clarification is better than answering a question wrongly.

Don’t have fear psychosis of failure in PI

Failures are a result of not being able to meet your goals. So, you need to convince your admission selection panel in PI that you have learnt valuable lessons from past failures and that you have enhanced your skills to become a better and a successful business leader.

If you failed to complete a certain project on time and consider that to you had been a failure, share with your interviewer the reason for failing to complete that task on time. 

Everyone has been in situations in which he/she has faced failures. So, expand upon this and shine light on one instance in which you have failed.

So don’t have fear psychosis of failure in PI. Be sure whatever your answers are and reply with firm conviction. That way you are sure that confidence is on top and selection panel likes it!
