Dramatization is part of communication

Look at the speech which has been delivered by PM designated or we can say PM in waiting Mr. Narendra Modi at the central hall of Parliament yesterday, speech was emotional, full of drama, suspense yet communication was at it’s pinnacle.

Today’s news papers are in all time praise for him for his eloquent speech and thus his communication power as he has communicated loud and clear on his agenda in coming months.

Likewise MBA aspirants should learn and take cue from his speech that communication has to be such that must move the audience all the way and your message goes across not only well but accepted also.

For best communication, you need to dramatize a bit, voice needs to be modulated and you should speak with regular pauses with audible clear voice. 

GD / PI are the crucial tests for you on communication skills only hence, better to hone these skills with practice.

Only confidence will take you forward!!

It is aptly said that “It’s not what you say out of your mouth that determines your life; it’s what you whisper to yourself that has the most power!”

Confident posture of yours is positive communication to others and you are perceived that way and your each action is appreciated.

MBA aspirants have everything to do with confidence, right from MBA entrance exams to GD/PI. Noteworthy situation here is that after you clear entrance exams and meet the cut off percentile for an institute then it is only your soft skill and confidence is judged.

PI is for your selection and not for rejection!!

Personal Interview (PI) is that final stage of MBA selection and let’s keeps it top of mind that PI is the last leg of MBA admission process and aspirants get shiver in their spine with the fear of rejection.

Undoubtedly after having cleared MBA entrance exam followed by Essay writing, WAT, GD etc.  You will be invited for Personal interview which has to be cleared at the end.

In GD there Is No Place for Arguments

Name of test is Group discussion; that means that there are expected group of people who will be having discussion on some issue / topic.

MBA institutes conduct Group Discussion which is commonly known as GD for the assessment of aspirants in areas of communication, body language, team coordination and leadership qualities. 

Since in companies communication plays vital role to nurture Brand and thereby satisfy customer hence, GD is conducted to assess you on above parameters because MBA institutes look in you as future manager so the best of you are selected for admission. 

GD is a platform where you are expected to discuss an assigned topic and put forward your point of view at your turn so that a meaningful discussion takes and group can come up with logical take away message as conclusion. 

Arguments have no place in GD and can’t be tolerated. So much so if arguments continue then sometimes entire group gets rejected. 

Agreed, that if one of the members is taking stance on argumentative tone even then this must be turned to positive with counter logics. Same is applicable for the assigned argumentative topics also. 

Best way to be prepared for GD is to read variety of GD TOPICS and be successful in GD!

In GD you must keep composure

Group discussion or GD is second last test to assess your soft skills like communication, leadership, attitude, adaptability and body language.

Most of B schools will give you GD topic which might vary from area of sports to social behavior to politics to environment to economic reforms etc.

It is not essential to jump to opening sentences as the perception is totally wrong that who sever speaks first might get considered as leader.

On the other hand it will be prudent to wait for your chance and then speak with confidence and present your ideas which must be focused on GD

Many a  times it has been observed that GD group starts speaking  a bit loudly on the premise that others must listen you but in the bargain chance are high that group gets defocused and sometimes entire group gets rejected.

Experts advice to keep composure and speak whenever your turn comes and even if you wish to submit your additional point, you may interrupt but with permission of all members. This can only happen when you are having solid points and others are equally recognizing your way of handling the topic.

Rush of reading study material

Agreed that MBA aspirant is in rush to finish reading study material of various exams alike CAT / XAT / IIFT etc.

But aspirants need to be cautious of the fact that only relevant reading material need to be read. Expert suggest that clearing fundamentals on Data Interpretation and Quant will be the foremost task to make up mind to crack any MBA entrance test with eligible percentile to get shortlisted by institute for next step of GD & PI.

Having cool temperament but supplemented with firm focus on preparation will succeed in exams.

Update your General awareness for IIFT

MBA aspirants who are planning to appear in forthcoming IIFT in November 2013 might note that you will be tested in current General awareness also besides your quantitative skills.

Questions on who is who or dates pertaining to historical facts may not be asked as that is history. Now you are expected to be updated with your surroundings hence, you must be updated with happenings nationally and globally.

Indeed you can raise your awareness with daily newspapers, magazines but current affairs program on radio will also be handy to analyze news.

General awareness topics should be read from all walks life. Be it sports, science, politics, economy, tourism etc.

MBA aspirants often feel that since GK or general awareness section is not part of the most of MBA entrance exam, hence this part of the preparation is taken a bit lightly sometimes.

CAT will herald new admission cycle for 2014-16

Forthcoming CAT 2013 will herald new admission cycle for academic year 2014-16.0 While CAT 2013 will be held in coming October, other exams XAT, IIFT, NMAT, CMAT, and SNAP will be conducted later in this year or max by Feb. 2014.

Dream for best B school that’s your right. But hold and put a question to yourself whether you are ready to meet the challenges which you will put forth during admission process by MBA institutes?

It is perceived that after having scored high percentile in MBA entrance exam, you are bound to be grilled for second round of admission cycle in arias of WAT, Essay, and GD & PI.

You can appear in many exams like CAT, XAT, IIFT, SNAP, NMAT and CMAT. Even scoring high percentile in these exams there is no guarantee that you will be selected.

B schools are of the view that they are looking forward to great quality aspirants who can be converted to a future manager and can meet aspirations of corporate.
