MBAs are also getting non- employable

Indeed now a days even MBAs are not getting employed and so much so, it is also being said that only 22% MBAs are employable. The moot point over here is; if that is the case then how more than 4.5  lac MBA aspirants take entrance tests for MBA admission?

Non employability is a common factor with Engineers, lawyers, CAs and Doctors too. That is different aspect that with MBA it is over expectation that job is in hand.

Employability is a skill which must be learnt without doubt but many a times certain aspects are learnt along with the job. Companies are also at receiving point that on one side they recruit passing out students as management trainees and on the other hand they expect readymade material right from the day one to get deliveries.

MBAs are still in demand but students must learn soft skills along with the course so that must become employable.

MBA still holds good!

Since couple of years MBA has taken a beating in market hence, fresh graduates are a bit confused whether MBA will help them for getting job?

Indeed the fact is that at present until you are having employability skills, you are not employable. Companies are demanding that MBA pass outs must be able to deliver on minimum certain aspects of communication, attitude, adaptability, confidence and willing to learn.

Naturally with above facts and with demand and supply trends MBA is looking to be on hold with some fresh graduates but on the other hand few students are realizing that it is only MBA as PG program will help them to gain a professional degree or diploma with which they will be in demand not only in India but Globally.

Degree Collegiate have top of mind aspiration to go for job immediately after final exam and nothing wrong with it but it is equally important to enhance knowledge base and MBA can be done along with work.

Management education teaches you to be analytical

In simple terms management education teaches you to simply complex situations.

"Never regard your study as a duty, but as the enviable opportunity to learn to know the liberating influence of beauty in the realm of the spirit for your own personal joy and to the profit of the community to which your later work belongs." aptly said Albert Einstein.

Management education keeps you going with thoughts like, if you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people
.
The essence of management education is that it is not the strongest of the species that survives, or the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.

Adaptability is outcome of management education an even if you can be appointed a manager, but you are not a leader until your appointment is ratified in the hearts and minds of those who work with you hence, leadership skills is total sum of management  education.

How to become professional?

Be it at the workplace or at school, you can behave and dress professionally to garner respect from your counterparts. First impression is very important; so, make it a point to wear clean and unwrinkled clothes at all times. Based on the dress code of your organization or school, choose the appropriate attire and wear it with pride and dignity.

To appear professional, one should be well-groomed. Men should keep their hair short and tidy. Unkempt facial hair is a deal breaker; so, maintain a clean shaven look. If you are keen on sporting a goatee or a mustache, keep it tidy at all times. Women should either tie their hair or prevent it from becoming messy in the course of the day.

Apart from donning the right attire and looking neat, one should exude confidence. You should be confident of your abilities. When you meet people, give them a firm handshake, which indicates that you are focused and determined to succeed.

A professional always speaks clearly and logically. So, when you are interacting with people at the workplace or in school, greet them, maintain a genuine smile and speak in an objective manner. Also, you should not use slang while speaking.

Professionalism is all about respecting your counterparts. If you are invited for a meeting or an event, you should always acknowledge the invitation and arrive at the venue promptly.

When you arrive at a function before or on time, it shows that you value others’ time. This will create a positive impression in others’ minds. And people will reciprocate in the same manner.

In addition, whenever work is assigned to you, make it a point to complete it before the stipulated deadline.

When you are committed to your work, you not only rise high in your career and academic life, but you also stay in the good books of your colleagues and peers.

Why employability scale is changing?

Over the last twenty years there has been considerable research on the necessary or desirable attributes of graduates. There are many lists of attributes and a good degree of convergence. The context in which assertions are made about graduate attributes is the rapidly changing organization.

Most organizations are characterized by a presumption that change is here to stay and have been affected by significant reorganization of one sort or another: downsizing, de-layering and flexible contractual arrangements.

This means that, for graduates, there is an unclear graduate promotion ladder, far more project-oriented team working, a consequent need to be able to interact with a wide range of personnel and a less clear chain of responsibility.

On top of that graduates face a wide range of work requirements and greater workload, longer working hours and more responsibility than in the past. In short, graduates need to be flexible and adaptable.

Organizations are thus looking much further than degree subject and classification when recruiting. Employers and their representatives consistently say that, to succeed at work, most people in future must develop a range of personal and intellectual attributes beyond those traditionally made explicit in programmes of study in higher education institutions.

Better be equipped with employability skills and that’s the mantra for MBA pass outs.

What company wants from MBA pass outs?

According to employers, the ability to communicate effectively with others and get along with a variety of different types of personalities is two of the most desirable qualities in job candidates.

Employers want to know if you have the ability to organize your thoughts and ideas effectively. Can you express them clearly when speaking or writing?

Can you present your ideas to others persuasively? Can you bring out the best efforts of individuals so they become effective, enthusiastic members of a team? Are you able to successfully contend with stressful situations and handle conflict?

It’s not enough just to have the right qualifications; an employer needs to know that you are willing to give 100 percent to your job. Interviewers are impressed by candidates who are alert, responsive and energetic. Do you demonstrate a forcefulness and capacity to make things move ahead? Can you maintain your work effort at an above average rate?

Employers need to know that the people they hire can expand and change as their companies do. Applicants who are receptive to new ideas and concepts are highly valued by employers. Are you capable of changing and being receptive to new situations and ideas? Can you confront and deal with problems that may not have standard solutions?

A job candidate’s willingness to work hard matters a great deal. Employers want to know that you are committed to devoting the prime hours of your day to the job. Do you have the capacity to compete with others and the willingness to be measured by your performance in relation to others?

This is an elusive quality that employers always mention in connection with first job hires. Maturity essentially means knowing how to handle self in a business situation. Misplaced humorous remarks, giggling at inappropriate moments or being indiscreet about company information are tell-tale signs of immaturity.
Do you demonstrate a sense of maturity that enables you to deal positively and effectively with situations and people?

Can you realistically assess your own capabilities? Do you see yourself as others see you and clearly recognize your strengths and weaknesses?
