Why LR section in CAT 2013 ?

Logical thinking is the process in which one uses reasoning consistently to come to a conclusion. Problems or situations that involve logical thinking call for structure, for relationships between facts, and for chains of reasoning.

Logical reasoning is very important in practical life for a making a conclusion or even a decision and hence it is a very important part for any MBA aspirant to prove his mettle at.

In CAT Logical Reasoning Questions appear in the form of a paragraph given followed up with some specific questions that can be derived from that paragraph by logically thinking. Recently CAT  papers had no separate section on LR and it is combined with the Verbal Ability section.

Most of the students think they are good at Vocabulary and RCs but when it comes to LR they seem to get low on confidence. But it should not be the case.

Try making yourself good at LRs as they along with DIs help in making easy scoring. Out of the regular 3 LRs that come in any CAT paper (it depends), one should try doing 2 of the easy ones as that will help in making up the sectional cut-off.

A variety of questions come on if-then approach. So you need to get yourself clear with the given paragraph first before moving on to the questions. When practicing logic with reasoning making a chart or drawing a picture are good strategies.

Serious CAT aspirants are focused

Let’s assume that all CAT aspirants are aspiring to crack CAT 2013 but hard reality is that small to medium percentage is focused on exam. Others either follow peer pressure or herd mentality to take exam. 

Preparation for CAT is an annual process which must be supplemented with clear understanding of fundamentals. Speed & time are also crucial factors which will have to be practiced. 

The more basics are clear on concept of DI & QA it will not be that difficult to grasp the section. Likewise vocabulary and grammar has to be at best to clear VA & LR section.  These efforts must be backed up with practice of Mock Tests.

Don’t follow herd mentality

Under graduates who are waiting for the result of final degree exam are in dilemma whether to go for post graduation in furtherance to their stream or go for MBA? 

Positively MBA holds excellent prospects for those who wish to be employed in corporate but it should be clear that certain specific skills will have to be built up like in faculty of communication, analytical, attitude, never ending will power to achieve goal.

One caution is that you need not follow herd mentality of wishing to go for MBA because of peer pressure or friends. You need to know whether you are the type to take challenge of industry or can you make up to be ready for that?

A bit of fear for failure is also motivational

We all fear for getting failure. Nothing wrong in that; as many a times it proves to be motivational to go extra mile beyond and perform the best.

It is failure only that pulls and pushes us to move ahead. Who has not failed? Difference between successful and unsuccessful is that former have worked on failures and later have left unchallenged.

Each fiasco gives opportunity to rework and find new dimensions, set new parameters and rejuvenate to achieve the goal.

With eye on success one is positively looking forward to achievement and even if momentary setback thwarts hope, one is able to recapture ground and remain on path of growth.

Communication skill is crucial

MBA aspirants must note that in any business, communication to target audience is dependent on Brand custodian.

Brand being property of a manger in a company has to communicate consumers at large as to why they should consume certain brand? USPs of Brand is defined and advertised at regular intervals. Hence, communication plays a vital role in Brand building process.

That’s the more reason B schools are always concentrating on communication skills and wish to admit aspirants with best skills.  After all aspirants are being perceived as future managers. 

Communication skill is an art which can be worked and can be upgraded with practice. Besides reading books beyond text books helps to mobilize thoughts which help to be better and the best in acquiring this skill.
